While it's a late bloomer in the modern age and retains echoes of a simpler, time-passed world, contemporary Greece has one of Europe's fastest-changing cultural landscapes. With its classical past, hang-loose present, and edgy future, Greece offers something for every traveler. Few people were ready to accept his idea. But in Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and began planning the first modern Olympiad. The first modern Olympic Games were held in in Athens, Greece — a fitting place to rekindle the spirit of the early Greek Games.

Urbanism in Greece and Rome was quite different from earlier periods and other regions in many ways, including organizational principles, the nature of urban layout and planning, and the amount of evidence on these topics available to modern scholars.

Some discussion of urban planning in Classical Greece and Rome cannot be avoided, however. This is a set of plans for an Ancient Greece unit. It's taught in Year 6 at our school.
